Of every NHL goalie coach, Sudarshan Maharaj without question has the most interesting background. He was born in Trinidad, an island in the Caribbean. Of course, hockey and the Caribbean go together like mustard and pancakes.
So how did Sudarshan Maharaj go from island life to the ice?
His story begins when the family moves from Trinidad to Toronto, Canada. At a Maple Leafs game, Maharaj was given a puck by a Maple Leafs player. This of course turned out to be a pivotal moment in his life, as he claims this inspired his burning passion for the sport of hockey.
Maharaj was raised in Toronto from the age of 6. He played several seasons of professional hockey in Sweden. He served as goaltending coach of the Korean National team during the 2018 Winter Olympics.
