Many call it the greatest hockey tournament in North America. For the young, high school athletes, playing in the Minnesota State High School Hockey Tournament is something they’ve always dreamed about.
The Boys High School Hockey Tournament in Minnesota draws 18,000+ (yes, that’s eighteen thousand) to a semi-final and final game annually. For many of the players, this is the biggest stage they’ll ever play on.
The 2018 Minnesota State High School Hockey Tournament
In “The Tourney” as they call it in Minnesota, there are 16 teams from across the state, divided into two brackets. Class A (smaller schools) has 8 teams and Class AA (larger schools) has 8 teams.
The MSHSL State High School Hockey Tournament also features the Let’s Play Hockey Expo, an event that draws upwards of 40,000 people during the State Tournament.

Class 2A State Tournament Teams 2018
For the State Tournament, the top 5 teams are seeded, with the latter 3 being assigned by random draw. Random draw is to be taken with a grain of salt, as many feel it is not a random draw with the way things shake out year after year. For the purposes of featuring each teams goalie, we’ll assume the teams are ranked 1-8.

Class 1A, the smaller schools in the state, consists of 8 teams from 8 sections across the state.
