Hockey goalie mask designs are some of the most creative pieces of artwork on the planet. From designs that appear simple, yet reveal detail like you wouldn’t believe up close; to mask paintjobs that are intricate through and through. Goalie helmets give the person wearing them a chance to display things about themselves that no other person on the ice can.
We’ve written about how to paint a goalie mask (and even painted a couple ourselves), however, for the purposes of this article, we’re going to take a look at some of the coolest goalie helmets of all time.

The team at Goalie Coaches decided to put together a giant list of some of our favorite goalie mask paint jobs that we’ve ever seen.
When you’re coming up with the design for your next mask, what we’ve found is that by combining several concepts from other masks you like, the end result is something you’re completely satisfied with. Don’t just copy a mask exactly, you might not be in love with the final product.

Our list of goalie mask painting ideas
These masks, in no particular order (in fact, we may originally break these down by painter), are some of our favorite goalie mask designs.
If you like some of the ideas you see below, contact the painter and hire them to paint oyur mask! Each artist has their own style, so go with the painter you think suits your style the most.
How much does goalie mask painting cost? Typically, $400 and up. However, it’s best to present the painter with your ideas first as they’ll be able to better quote you. The cost of the custom paint is going to be determined by complexity of the project, timing, your required turn around time, etc.

Craig Pantano (Merrimack College)
The “best goalie mask paintjob” is clearly a subjective opinion. With that being said, in my opinion, this is one of my top college masks for the 2017 / 2018 season. A dark facemask is something that is not often used in mask paintjobs and it helps this dark / white mask transition it’s color zones perfectly. Painted by Derrick Gilders.
Jeff Smith & David Hrenak (St. Cloud State Huskies)
The first mask listed here is worn by Jeff Smith and if I had to choose, my favorite of the two. Both SCSU masks are painted by the above mentioned artist, Gilders Design.
And Hrenak’s mask.
Carter Hutton’s Vaughn mask by Jesse’s Custom Design.
Hutton will actually wear two masks. Whether he decides to wear one at home and on the road is up for debate. He may have had two masks (one being a practice mask) painted simply for more exposure to the painter.

Colton Point’s Bauer helmet painted by Sylabrush.
The first thing fans will notice about Point’s helmet is that features matte paint. This has become a popular style in the past several years and for good reason, too. The paint job is designed to go well with both the Dallas Stars and Texas Stars uniforms from both a distance and up close.

DaveART does a large percentage of masks for professional goalies, he’s the official Bauer mask painter of the NHL. Painted cages are also becoming extremely popular, which in our opinion is better for fans. Masks that incorporate the design right into the cage are highly appealing!
