About: The Maltese Gel by Maltese Sports is a gel based protective product designed to reduce impact in sporting equipment, however it is largely used by goaltenders.
While you cannot purchase sheets of the gel itself, you can purchase it in kits for a goalie helmet as well as in other items like the Maltese Neck Guard. Maltese also manufacturers knee guard systems, provides the product for use it sweatbands, as well as a variety of other applications.
Personally, the Goalie Coaches team has used the gel in a custom OTNY X1M helmet and in a standalone mask kit. If you have the money to spend, you will not regret ordering the gel in a custom helmet. On this note, OTNY (sold through GoalieParts.com) is one of the few helmet manufacturers that does this. It’s expensive, but worth it.
As far as the standalone gel kit (can be purchased on Goalie Monkey), it’s a little bit harder to use. Most users swear by this product, however I had trouble getting it to work with a Bauer NME 9. This may have been due in part to mask fit, but the gel is a bit slimmer than you might imagine.
Overall, if you’re serious about your goaltending career, Maltese is a product worn by a ton of pros.
